Introduction:

The study of points of articulation (makhārij al-ḥurūf) is considered one of the fundamental pillars in the science of Tajwīd, due to its direct impact on the correct pronunciation of Arabic letters and the ability to distinguish between them. This ensures the accuracy of recitation and achieves an eloquent performance in line with the way it was transmitted from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The correct articulation of each letter is closely tied to sound pronunciation and precise delivery, forming the foundational step toward mastering Qur’anic recitation according to Tajwīd rules.

This module, presented within a virtual lab environment, aims to develop the learner’s ability to identify both the primary and secondary points of articulation of the Arabic letters. It achieves this by integrating theoretical content with practical application, thereby enhancing learners’ auditory and phonetic discrimination skills, especially with regard to letters that are close in articulation or phonetic characteristics. Moreover, the module contributes to the development of phonological and linguistic awareness, enabling learners to refine their recitation and correct common pronunciation errors.

The inclusion of this module follows an interactive, observation-based educational approach, serving as a structured starting point for building phonetic competencies related to the recitation of the Qur’an. It thus promotes a holistic integration between cognitive understanding and practical skill in the study of Tajwīd.
